31 years post operative survivor
Authored by Bettie

Edema began immediately after my surgery. Not too bad at first. About 10 years ago I had my first episode of infection in my arm. No one seems to know how it gets in there. I survived that, being treated with antibiotics at home. However, my arm became increasingly swollen. About 5 years ago I experienced infection in my arm again that put me in the hospital for 5 days being treated with antibiotics intravenously, followed with oral treatment. I experienced another episode 2 years ago that was treated as out patient with new antibiotics. This left me with an arm 3 times as large as my other one. I was referred to a MLD clinic that was somewhat successful while I was going. I have been fitted with a sleeve and glove to wear during the day, but am unable to wrap as needed at night. I am interested in talking with someone that has experienced the wearing of the ReidSleeve at night in place of wrapping. I am at the stage now of needing help over and above what I already have. There doesn't seem to be any sort of support group in Cincinnati, OH. If anyone can give me information I would appreciate it.
